Leerdoel #4 Engelse schrijfvaardigheid verbeteren

Actie 2 - Grammatica Engels oefenen

Oefening 2: Een formele mail schrijven

Dear Mr Blick,

I am writing to you this mail because I have received your complaint. I understand your frustration about the poor service you have experienced, and I would like to apologise for this at the outset.

Firstly, We as a company take responsibility for this huge mistake. Supplying Heineken fridges with the Amstel logo on them is a big mistake. I understood that the fridges were specially ordered for a Heineken party you wanted to give, this makes it extra painful for us to make such a mistake. We will do our utmost to make sure this sort of problem does not occur again.

Besides, you are a loyal customer of Heineken, this gives us a good reason to make it up to you. I have discussed with the company how we can make up for our mistake and poor service, because it is clear that you are a real Heineken fan we want to give you something extra in return. You will receive the ordered fridge this week, it will be filled with Heineken beer. You will also receive an exclusive Heineken standing table. However, this is not the only thing we want to give back. We would also like to invite you and your person to visit the Heineken experience in Amsterdam, a fully catered day with snacks and drinks. We hope that you will organise more Heineken parties in the future, in which case we would like to sponsor you. If you have a party planned, please let us know and we will come and surprise you with suitable surprises around the Heineken theme.

However, we hope that we have solved your complaint sufficiently. The poor customer service we have provided to you we can not make up. As Heineken, we will deal with this immediately, because customers are very important to us. Customers are also the people who ensure that we continue to grow. We hope that you will not terminate your business relationship with us. We would like to improve the relationship in order to create a long-lasting partnership.

If you have any questions or comments about your complaint, please do not hesitate to contact us. This time we will answer directly to help you further. We hope your complaint has been made well, if not please do not hesitate to let us know. Again our apologies for this big mistake.

Yours sincerely,

Justin den Hollander

Oefening 3: Een E-newsletter schrijven

Driving with a Heineken beer on, is that allowed?

Heineken feels responsible to let its loyal fans know that driving with alcohol is not an option. In this newsletter, Heineken informs their customers that there are alternatives. You can also read why Heineken feels responsible and how serious it is to drive under the influence of alcohol. Read this e-newsletter and benefit from it. Tell others about this social problem and share our message. You too can make a difference to the world.

Drink-driving a growing problem

First of all, drink driving is becoming an increasing problem worldwide. In recent years, this problem has been particularly exacerbated by young drinkers. Young people often do not realize what alcohol does to the human body, and simply get into the car under the influence. The risks and dangers involved are life-changing for these young people, and a criminal record can affect your whole life. Age limits for alcohol are increasing worldwide, big discounts on beer are being banned and checks are becoming more frequent in traffic. As Heineken has customers worldwide, Heineken wants to use its network to convince young people of the dangers through this e-mail.

More and more young people are getting into trouble with the law because of this. Globally, the consequences of driving with alcohol are enormous, and you may find yourself out of touch with the dream job you have been studying for all this time.

Alcohol on the road

Although most people think that they can still drive with alcohol on, alcohol does a lot to your behaviour in the car. When under the influence of alcohol, your ability to judge distances is much reduced. Because of this, your reaction speed slows down; with two glasses of alcohol, your reaction speed drops by 0.5 seconds. This does not sound drastic, but at a speed of 80 km/h this results in a braking distance of no less than 11 metres longer. Your self-criticism also diminishes; you overestimate your own abilities and become overconfident. By doing so, you unconsciously take risks that can be fatal. You think you have a good view of the road, but under the influence of alcohol, your vision narrows enormously. Because of this, your focus is not 360 degrees, And the traffic on the sides is skipped and this is a danger for other road users.

Here, in brief, is what alcohol does to you in traffic:

  • It slows down your reaction speed
  • You become overconfident and do not see any risks
  • You can no longer estimate distances
  • Your concentration is impaired
  • Your vision is reduced

Heineken thinks along

Heineken wants to increase their social return in addition to profit. Since driving under the influence of alcohol is a social problem, Heineken wants to be part of the solution. People who have to drive a vehicle should also be able to enjoy the delicious taste of Heineken. A non-alcoholic beer with exactly the same taste as a normal beer would be a good step towards a solution. In this way, Heineken ensures that people still have a choice to drink Heineken and can get into the car without danger. The production of such a non-alcoholic beer costs a lot of money. However, this is not reflected in the price of the beer in the supermarket. Heineken has chosen not to pass on the extra production costs of their new product to the consumer. By doing so, Heineken hopes to make the choice towards a non-alcoholic beer easy, there is no reason why you shouldn't.

By means of this e-newsletter, Heineken wants to make it clear that driving under the influence of alcohol is life-threatening. Penalties and fines for such an offence are drastic. However, Heineken wants to do more than inform its customers about this global social problem. Heineken will give a one-off amazing discount on their alcohol-free beer. For everyone who shows the discount code, DRIVESAFE, in the supermarket, there is a special discount. Heineken will be selling their products at factory prices, which means that no profit will be made on the beer. Heineken will only take the production costs out of the selling price of the beer. With this statement Heineken hopes to show its loyal customers that it is serious. Drink a nice beer, but don't get in the car. If you do have to drive, get your alcohol-free beer now with the above discount code. Go to the supermarket quickly and be surprised by this delicious beer without alcohol.
